A new ambassador for BFGoodrich®: Miki Biasion, the Italian legend

Miki Biasion knows a thing or two about winning rallies…and, obviously, about tires. Making this two-time World Rally Champion a BFGoodrich® ambassador was an obvious choice for the brand. The Italian rally driver legend shared with us his excitement about this new role.

Quick look-back on a full blast career

Miki Biasion, 59, started racing in 1979 and his rally career seriously kicked off in the early 1980s. After winning both the Italian and European Rally Championships in 1983, he took the world championship consecutively in 1988 and 1989. At his peak, Biasion was sweeping up podiums in three quarters of all events he entered. After 20 years of glory in rally, the Italian champion turned to off-road in 1997 for renewed adventures. Unlocking another type of talent, he started this new era of his career with a bang, winning the rally raid world cup twice (1998 and 1999) in the truck category with his Iveco truck and also finished second at the 2002 Dakar.

From one challenge to another

Rally-raid. A new passion, a new challenge for Miki. “I fell in love with off-road”. Miki’s favourite rallies used to be the longest ones. He thrived on driving sideways in heavy mud, sand and snow. So it is quite natural that he was geared towards off-road. “It combines tactics, stamina and a unique contact with nature. The main competitor is not the drivers but the natural elements - the dunes, the forest, the mud…”. The fierce competitor is also fond of the off-road competition spirit. “The atmosphere between drivers is different to that in rally. The track is dangerous so there is a lot of solidarity.” Seems like we have quite a bit of a #driver enough spirit here, doesn’t it?

BFGoodrich®, a faithful partner in crime

Since his start in off-road, the Italian competitor has always remained true to BFGoodrich®. “In off-road, I have always used BFGoodrich® tires. The brand believes in competition and in new product developments. This experience in motorsports is key to developing products for standard vehicles such as 4x4s and SUVs.”. Miki’s tested experience and knowledge of BFGoodrich® tires made him the perfect ambassador for the brand. The seasoned racer is both “proud and thrilled” about this new collaboration and to represent a brand that he believes in. Excited also about testing and giving feedback on new equipment as well as sharing his tips with off-road enthusiasts “I know the performance of the tires so well, it is natural for me to share this with customers”.

At BFGoodrich®, we are delighted about this new partnership which will, with no doubt, bring along some gripping #driver enough adventures…Stay tuned!

If you were an animal?

An elephant. They are intelligent and so sweet. But they can become aggressive if you disturb them.

If you were a car?
Tricky! I love so many! A small and very powerful one. Maybe a Lancia… Definitely not a Rolls Royce or Ferrari.

If you were a tire?
All Terrain, of course!

If you were a co-driver?
An off-road rather than a rally co-driver because he is as important as the driver.

If you were a rally?
The Dakar or the Safari Rally for nature and the wild.

If you were a sport other than rally raid?
A golf player for the tactics and concentration. And because they make a lot of money without risking their lives!

Your adrenaline surge?
Racing downhill with my mountain bike.

Your favorite moment in a rally?
The day before the start…with all the dreams, expectations, goals to reach and ideas to get there.

Your ideal rally meal?
Italian pasta with salmon

Your best memory?
There are so many! Maybe my first victory in Africa at the 1988 Safari Rally.
If you were a dream destination?
Go back to when I was 20 to do all the things I have done over again.

Your dream project for the future?
Develop a new car for rally racing or rally-raid.

Your motto
“To drive sideways is the best thing a man can do when dressed.”!
